So Hot, Day 1

Day one of an expected heat wave, and I have to say, my bug walk was not worth getting sweaty for. I had to turn on the porch light in the evening to find more bugs, which is where I found the Backyard Bug of the Day.

Backyard Bug of the Day:
 Brown lacewing

Other bugs:
 Meadow seed bugs (I think).

Quite a few moths fluttering about, but they don't like to pose for pictures. I caught a couple, though.

Looper caterpillar doing a pretty good job blending into the vein of a leaf

I thought at first that this was a firefly...

Peeking underneath, it did look like one...

But then when I accidentally knocked it on the ground and it played dead, it appears it's not.

See if you can find the bug in this picture. I didn't see it when I took the picture.

Not a good picture, but such a pretty moth I had to post anyway.

I think this is the kind of bug (a cockroach of some kind) that I rescued from drowning the other day. It could be the exact same bug. Maybe it came by to show me that it's okay.

My nightmare:

.
So many horrible gypsy moth caterpillars...
