But Is It Art?

It is tricky taking pictures of things underwater when you're not underwater yourself (although I think it's pretty tricky that way, too). Moving water especially is challenging.

 Well, impossible, really.

I suppose if the camera itself, or the lens, anyway, could be submerged, but with my gear... Anyway, I think that bright thing in the middle is a small caddisfly larval case. It was hard to tell under the fast-flowing stream. It ends up looking like a painting made by an artist who isn't sure if they want to be an Impressionist or go full abstract.

Fortunately, right next to the bank was a stiller pool, where I was able to photograph Backyard Bug of the Day:

This might be a dragonfly larva. Or nymph. I am not clear on that. It could also be a damselfly nymph, would would be the same order, Odonata. Or it could be something else entirely. I think I have had similar nymphs as BBotD already, but this one looks different, and could be a different species, or a different instar.

There were a fair number of other, similar looking things in the water. As you can probably guess, these were in a spot where there was more flow:

Taking pictures of insects on top of the water is a little bit easier. Here are a couple of springtails:

I was not trying to take a picture of a bug here. I didn't even know that I did until I saw it on the computer. This is a pretty small flower. That is a tiny bug.

I saw a few uncooperative spiders today for Arachnid Appreciation:
