The Sphinx

I was unable to do a bug walk today, so I had to rely on the porch light in order to see bugs, and it did not disappoint.

Backyard Bug of the Day:
I think this is a small-eyed sphinx moth. I found it on the doormat–I almost stepped on it.

To show how big it is.

 Wing close-up

Obviously the name "small-eyed is not a reference to the size of its eyes. It a reference to the patterns on it's wings.

Note the "eyes" peeking out from the underwings.

Other Bugs:
 Cockroach on the storm door.

 Caddisfly

A couple of very tiny moths:

 Plume moth

 Grape leaf roller moth
