Today seemed like the kind of day that would have bugs all over the place, but that was not the case. I don't know why. I have given up trying to figure that out. It was a nice day for me to be outside, though.
Backyard Co-Bug of the Day #1:
Sharpshooter. These are so resistant to photography that it's my policy that it gets to be Backyard Bug of the Day whenever I finally get a picture of one.
Backyard Co-Bug of the Day #2:
I think this is a tachinid fly from the genus Trichopoda. On goldenrod.
Goldenrod is slowly coming into bloom in different places in the backyard, and is attracting a lot of wasps and bees. Today I got a couple of shots of wasps:

I almost smacked right into this dangling caterpillar, face first.

Of course yesterday I wrote all about monarch butterflies always laying their eggs on the underside of leaves, only to find this egg on top of a leaf.
